Kaneka is a Japanese chemical manufacturer that has also been active in Belgium since the 1970s. The specialty chemicals it develops and produces there are used mainly in the construction, automotive, and do-it-yourself sectors.
The challenge | Looking for peace of mind
“The NIS2 directive prompted us to look for a new backup environment,” says Peter Van de Wiele, IT Manager at Kaneka.
Johan Morren, Assistant IT Manager, adds: “Two things mattered to us. We were looking for a better and more secure backup solution, and with our previous solution we were hitting the limits on restore time for our SAP environment.”

The process | Combining HPE with Cohesity
“We chose Cohesity on the recommendation of our trusted partner Xylos, in whom we have a lot of confidence,” says Peter Van de Wiele.
At Kaneka, HPE hardware is a trusted choice. Combining it with Cohesity was a logical step toward creating a robust and secure backup environment. The Cohesity Next-Gen backup solution offers advanced ransomware detection, an important requirement for peace of mind.
Our expert IT consultant Roel Van Mol played a key role in the project: “At Kaneka, we installed a high-availability solution with HPE Storage and HPE ProLiant for the hypervisors. We then integrated the Cohesity backup solution into this environment.”
International locations were also factored into the solution. “In Germany and Ghana, we set up backup appliances to centralize the backups from there to Belgium,” says Roel. Johan explains: “If something were to happen in Ghana, we have a secure backup here in Belgium to recover quickly.”
The result | 100% secure backup
Together with Xylos, Kaneka organized a proof of concept to test the backup solution. “This allowed us to set up a successful backup for our SAP environment,” says Peter.
Johan concludes: “This solution meets all our requirements. It not only provides the necessary security, but also the speed to successfully restore SAP within the required time frame.”
