The challenge
The intranet ran on SharePoint with a Valo layer on top. That layer had to go, and the intranet needed to be rebuilt from the ground up, with custom functionality for things like news distribution and layout.
On top of that, there was a need for applications to automate administrative processes, along with practical tools to support work in the field.
The approach
A well-established team of Xylos consultants has been embedded at De Lijn for years. Over that time, they built and maintained SharePoint environments across several generations: 2007, 2010, 2013 and SharePoint Online.
The team also carried out migrations between Power Platform components and supported an internal business department with custom applications. That continuity delivers deep process knowledge and a short line to the business.
The solution
Xylos removed the Valo layer and built a new, custom intranet. Alongside the standard functionality, it received extensions for pushing news and for layout.
On the Power Platform, the team developed several apps. The most striking example shows drivers, based on their location, where they can find a toilet facility that De Lijn has an agreement with. Administrative processes were automated with Power Automate.
The delivery included training for site owners and a hypercare period, so De Lijn can continue independently.
The result
The partnership now spans more than twelve years and continues into 2026. It has stood the test of four generations of SharePoint.
